i am fed up with the cheap inadequate little led lights that just about let cars see you but you can't see any better so what lights for to see rather than just to be seen?
Cheers Ed
P.S cheap as possible please!

I recently bought the Cateye Nano Shot Plus. Not cheap but I have noticed vehicles not taking the pi55 near as much at junctions and roundabouts. There are cheaper available and the runtime is pretty rubbish but I can charge it in work and get a week out of a charge if I only need to use it on the inbound commute.

That looks like a good recommendation. Did you buy one and do you use it for road riding? How good is it in unlit country lanes?

They are good for unlit roads. Down side is they can blind motorists, but a quick shove on the light will have it pointing down. There are also UK sellers on ebay but 7dayshop are reliable.

Have a good read of the T6/U2 light thread. There is a tonne of information on there. As for power/efficiency the LED's go like this. Old Cree P7, XML-T6, XML-U2 and finally the new XML2-T6. The newer the brighter and slightly more efficient with battery use. You can also get the twin headlamp Solarstorm lights for about the same money which use a U2 LED.

Loads of ~£20 mega bright lights on ebay, they usually come with battery and charger and a couple of different size o-rings to suit various handlebars (my partner recently bought one and it came with a head strap too, handy for off road running etc).

You can easily maximise the lifespan and weatherproofing of the light with a glob of vaseline and some electrical tape. Additionally, a little bit of flexy plastic and some tape or an elastic band can just about solve the issue of blinding motorists.

I've been using one for several years. The only issue you are likely to have on a cheap light is a duff battery since it is battery technology that tends to drive up the costs, not the light source. But you can buy replacements. Probably worth having an extra anyway to use on rotation.
