My 'boil in the bag' Altura waterproof jacket would do my head in after a few miles at most - I only use it for commuting in really heavy rain.
I find if I'm warm then being wet isn't an issue. Have done a couple of long, wet rides in March (Kinross Sportive for one) with just thermal T-shirt, jersey, and arm warmers. If I have bare arms I get cold really easily in the wet.

You'll have a much better ride on your new road bike

How far did you go on the Kinross sportive ? Im wanting to do it next year and being sensible the 45 would be good but tempted to do 70 concern is just a new roadie and depending on taining in winter concern 70 would be too much....

It looks worse than it is. Honest. You do the steepest section coming out of the village and then it levels off, comparatively speaking, just as you think you legs are going to fall off and the rest of the ride to the top is uphill but cyclist-friendly. I've done it twice now and it's one of my favourite rides.
