To MTFU or not to MTFU?

Tomorrow, we're cycling up Cheddar Gorge as part of a fifty mile ride. The forecast is for rain, "sunny intervals" and yet more rain. My dilemma is this:

  • I was going to ride the new road bike* which is equipped with nothing more spacious than a teeny saddle bag, just enough for my multitool, spare tubes etc.
  • I have a borked body thermostat and get unbearably hot wearing my waterproof jacket when it's not raining.
  • My hybrid has a sensibly rack pack where I can stash the jacket.

*which I'm still :hyper: about

Do I:
  1. Sweat it out with the jacket and road bike?
  2. MTFU and leave the jacket at home, relying on lots of spinning to keep me warm?
  3. Play it safe and take the hybrid?

Go to Asda, get a Bell bar bag for under a tenner and take the roadie and jacket ;)

Lol, I have to leave here at 8 as it is, getting to ASDA and making it to the rendezvous in time would require a 7am departure. Did I mention needing enough energy to get up cheddar gorge? (Where's the 'I'm a wimp' emoticon? )

My 'boil in the bag' Altura waterproof jacket would do my head in after a few miles at most - I only use it for commuting in really heavy rain.
I find if I'm warm then being wet isn't an issue. Have done a couple of long, wet rides in March (Kinross Sportive for one) with just thermal T-shirt, jersey, and arm warmers. If I have bare arms I get cold really easily in the wet.

You'll have a much better ride on your new road bike

Go tonight ;)

Road bike.
Take a black plastic bin bag in a back pocket - should the weather turn really nasty for a while. (Make sure you cut a hole for your bonce and arms beforehand ;) )

For the future: One of these perhaps - fits in a water bottle cage. And they are not £80!
