i give the cables a spray of gt85 at the point of joining the inner as part of routine maintenance. brake cables are over 10,000km old and still going on my commuter (nylon lined inners)…
I've come across quite a few sticking throttles on motorcycles caused by people greasing the cables (and the muck that ultimately sticks to the grease).
Best thing then is to clean all the grease off and libricate the exposed ends with silicone spray, works 9 out of 10 times without having to fit new cables.
If you feel you must put somthing on the inner before fitting, a light coating of 3 in 1 oil is far better than grease..
