I too was out in Northumberland today. The wind was unreal. I also wore too many layers, and ended up sweating like a pig. Managed 31 miles and had to sit in the garage for 10 minutes when I got back, exhausted.

My normal route is 33 miles, taken at an average of 17mph. Today, I managed 15.6mph over 31mph, but it was definitely the hardest ride I've ever done.

i averaged 11.4mph!

was on my hybrid with rack etc and a lot was of road, shared paths and tracks, finally got a straight run and the wind killed me, i was even slow down hill!!!

is did 13 mile in just over an hour

Ha! I was lucky, 'cause my ride was all on the open road. No lights, peds, dogs....etc I echo your thoughts about going slow downhill though. Character building stuff!

Wish Id checked this thread before going out today. Felt really cold so dressed up nice and warm.

Sweating for most of my ride

Saying that, it was breezy and cold on the tops again so worth it I suppose.

I certainly discovered that the Aldi jacket isn't goretex!!
