I did a few pages back  I am also following the thread advidly as I also have an itch to scratch. A thru axle, disc kind of itch.

Anyway, go on buy one, you can also sort out the gnashers next year
Nah got gnasher pain from an infection

Van Nic have a new TA disc frame coming, although according to local dealer, they've got some quality issues. Might be resolved with new range.

I'm sure there'll be more options next year

Unfortunately it's potentially specialist revision root canal. Having the tooth pulled out would be cheaper

But would it be as painful as trying to help you choose?

Maybe not, but what I think I want doesn't seem to exist right now. It's quite a lot of money for a bike I probably don't need so has to be the right one

Note that the frame is a roadie frame. So has no frame mounts for mudguards or panniers.
From discussions, you can often get them added. This will be so if I go the J Guillem route. That was an example as hitherto van Nic have had no disc road frames

I know.
If they had one earlier this year and would have had mounting points there would be no question that I would get one what ever the cost.
But the PX I did get has surprised me at how lovely it is and of which I am really loving at the moment.

I know, I've been down that road about 7 times and each time, after long procrastination, I've had buyers remorse due to my ideas changing, hence another custom job. As I mentioned earlier a lot of what I wanted has now become mainstream but looking at OTP there always seems to be one or two bits not quite right. Stupidly my biggest problem has been, having spent £4k upwards on these builds, I've found myself very reluctant to ride such expensive bikes. Eventually I went back to having a steel frame made(custom steel forks as well) and find myself quite happy to ride that.

Worked out about half the price of Ti frame and carbon forks and I don't care if it rusts or gets nicked/damaged, well not like I cared when it was all Ti...irrational...yep.

Having Rohloff and all that I now find myself hankering after a Pinion compatible frame

Have you looked at the Starley stainless steel frame made in Cheshire? Superb workmanship and the smoothest riding bike I've ever tested. Can be bespoke to your requirements.

Not to sure?
I have just had a really interesting conversation with Richard @ Starley Bikes, and I have to say he ticked every single box and then some. Stainless steel polished frame, disc braked, concealed cables/pipes, mudguard clearance, mudguard eyes, (and rack eyes if you want as well), all built in the UK and a lifetime warranty with the original owner!

And they will be at the NEC in September....Brucie bonus I say :heat:

I have a steel bike

I very much enjoyed my J Gulllem testride. Springy springy Ti

I think size and weight must be a consideration here, being on the large side I tend to find most bikes quite compliant and actually prefer something a bit more rugged. Before getting my custom steel I first tootled around on a Surly Crosscheck then a Karate Monkey. I found that my preference seemed to lie towards stronger frames and a bit more cushion via bigger tyres. My current ride has 700x60 slicks.

I suppose if I ever get back to the sort of weight I should be that might change.

@vickster If you are feeling really brave and want to be ahead of the herd you could look at http://trillioncycles.com/TwentyTwo/ They are just around the corner from me and I had a good chat to them last year and they seemed nice enough. At the time they had plenty of demo bikes they were offering. I was after a fixed gear special. For the TwentyTwo, it has not launched but it looks fairly relaxed, with TA and internal cables.
