Time to change the national anthem?

Or how about "I bet you they won't play this song on the radio"? Short (57seconds or thereabouts), easy to sing and it'd put a lot more populist instruments into any orchestra that has to play it.

Pickin' the bluebells in the merry month of May,
When everyone was happy and everyone was gay.
Which might not mean quite the same now as it did in the '50s when the tune was more popular.

I'm almost convinced that this has the potential to be a great anthem, if someone could pen the appropriate words extolling the best of England: i.e. not religion, politics, military or monarchy.

That Japanese anthem sounds like it was composed by the ghastly Graham Kendrick or one of those other one-finger composers of modern twaddle who have destroyed British church music with marvels of composition like "Shine, Jesus, Shine". Arguably the banality of their music has actually contributed to the decline of organised Christian religion in Britain.

But I digress....
