I've used Look, Shimano and speedplay.

Speedplay, light weight, dead simple to use if you get the Zero model its adjustable release angle and float, dual sided pedals means just foot on and click, downside is getting the mounting screw tension right for you can be a little long winded plus 4 hole fixing so have to use supplied adaptor, use coffee cup covers to walk in as metal base means you can slip easily when walking.

Shimano, neat, simple and light, 3 hole mounting cleats, pick colour of plate for float, cleat wears quite well when walking and as they have softer edges don't slip when walking.

Look, utilatarian, work well and simple, cleats do wear quickly so expect to change them at least once a year more if you ride loads.

Of the 3 speedplay are my fav due to dual sided and full adjustability, next up shimano cause they are easy to walk in and do their job when riding. Look's well if I have to, never been that impressed even with Keo's, maybe i'm just a snob

Ive had Look and Shimano, Shimano are much much better i think. Light, nice feel to them, nice to clip into, feel good when sprinting and powering up a hill.
Look was alright, not as nice i find. And i had one set break, then i got an exchange for another set, which broke in the same place.
A friend of mine had them break in the same place aswell.
The bit that broke was a little push in bit that hold the bar with the springs on. When you lose this, chances are you might find out when you sprint and your foot comes unstuck. Or when you unclip and find it hard to clip back in because your not getting the sound and it doesnt feel right.
Which can put you in a hard situation, when your out in the middle of know-where wil a pedal that wont hold you.
Shimano SPD-SL for me.

I've used Look, SPD and Time ATAC.

Look are my preferred choice for doing distance on road. Nice big platform and pretty secure. Totally useless for walking in so no good for commuting, but when I'm out on the good bike walking is the last thing on my mind.

SPD's are great for commuting. Easy to walk in with MTB shoes and dead easy to get in and out of. Dirt cheap and easilly available.

Time ATAC are now my preferred option for commuting. Like SPD they are great for walking, and though not quite as easy to clip into they feel far more secure once you're in. A bit more float too, which takes a bit of getting used to, but I don't think I'll go back to SPD since trying these.
