Time limit for a 600?

I’m planning to do a solo epic later this year (a reverse LEL, Exeter-Leamington-Exeter) which comes in at around 592k. What sort of time limit would be allowed if I was doing this as a ‘proper’ 600? I’m not bothered about trying to do it as a Perm or anything, I just want to be able to judge my pace/ability if I decide to try a few of the sillier official rides.
Cheers,
Chuffy

I think it's 14.3 kmh up to 700 km length ride.

The official qualifying rides for PBP are "BRM" to the international standard and basically the route has to be 600km plus no more than 5% and the total distance has to be covered in less than 40 hours
So worst case it could be 629km in 40 hours

If you let me know when you are going to be riding I will see if I can get a weekend off house painting and stuff like that to accompany you. My audax campaign for the year ended with the Mille Cymru last weekend, next thing I have lined up for definite is the Dartmoor Devil end of October.

It's much easier to ride with other people than on your own

Thanks for the numbers chaps. Looks like it's doable...

Vorsprung - thanks for the offer but I'm planning on crashing at a friends flat between legs and he's only got space for me.

Yup. AUK min speed is 14.3kph with allowance for over-distance; BRM min speed is 15kph but with no allowance for over-distance. 40hrs or less, including some sleep halfway, would be a sound result.

If you change your mind and want a domestique there is a YHA at Stratford Upon Avon, I could do that. Reception shuts at midnight however

Please tell me you're going to stretch it out 8km at least.

He said he's not chasing points. So why get obsessive about round numbers?

Better over than under in my book, Talking of round numbers nice post time

592k is what I make it on paper. I might stretch it to a nice round figure if it looks doable. However I suspect that if I get within sniffing distance of home then I'll be making a bee line for tea/shower/bed. Deliberately stopping just short has it's own ragged glory I feel...

No it don't, why set out to do a ride then quit 8k's before you finish?
[/quote]
The ride finishes when I get home. This is just me and a map, it's not an organised event or any kind of 'official' ride.

If, if Chuffy wanted to ride the ride for AUK points to a definite number of 100s of km then he would have to ensure that the route had a total minimum distance of 600km
This is not the same as the actual distance ridden.
The minimum distance is worked out with the viamichelin website or a copy of Microsoft Autoroute. The distance is that between the "control points" according to these computer mapping programs. It is not the route you actually ride.

Usually on DIY 600km rides, to get the minimum distance to 600km the route is over distance, greater than 600

If that all sounds a bit complicated: it is! Chuffy fancies a ride up to see his mates: now that isn't complicated

A couple of months ago having completed our 150 Miles in 12 ( plus 15 extras) i thought about adding 35K for my first ever 300 KM; the thought lasted about 3/4 seconds

Right then! It's on. :becool:

11-12th Sept. The only caveat is that if the weather forecast is completely vile I'm staying in bed, I'm not a total masochist.

The weekend before is the South-West Tour ride, which means I'll either be in great shape, or I'll have been broken by 110 miles of chevrons...

Wish me luck!
