Bought Merida 93 Carbon, with Tagra group set.

It's not that smooth to be honest, and the chain rubs on the front derailleur, when it on 1 front and 8 rear. And on 2 front 8rear, I have been adjusting on the handlebar, which does help a lot, but the. Knocks the adjustment out for other gears?

Any tips guys?

There is usually one or two micro shifts that can be done to allow for trimming of the front derailleur (before or after making the big shift between the two chain rings.)

Check the front derailleur limit screws aren't preventing the full range of derailleur motion.

Check front derailleur cable tension (you may have a barrel adjuster somewhere between the shifters on the handlebar and the front derailleur, have a look) Too little tension will favour the lower chainring making a shift to the large very laboured or noisy.

Also avoid chain crossover: when in the small front chainring avoid using the small sprocket on the rear. When in the big front chainring avoid using the big sprocket on the rear.
