Hi guys! I just got my shiny new Tiagra 10 sp Cassette in the post from Ribble. I was going to fit it this AM ready for a charity ride tomorrow. Doing a bit of google-type research, I find many mentions of a 1mm spacer fitting between the cassette and the wheel, my cassette came with no such spacer. Are the spacers just Dura-ace/Ultegra? What should I do, slam it on and hope or do a red-faced tour of LBS's and beg for them for one? I am fitting to a Shimano Tiagra Hub, which is currently carrying a 9 spd cassette.

The Shimano tech Doc for the Tiagra shows no spacer...

But the Ultegra does. (part 14 on the diagram)

I just fitted a 105 cassette which had the spacer. The tiagra that I took off didn't. Don't know if that helps

On the flip side, I've just fitted an Ultegra cassette and with the spacer fitted I couldn't get the lockring on. Removed the spacer and the lockring went on perfectly. All clearances seem fine and shifting is perfect.

FWIW I also have an Ultegra cassette on my commuter and that does use the lockring, go figure  I suspect it must be relative to which freehub is fitted but I could well be wrong.

Thanks guys, the 105 tech doc shows it as well. I'll bang it on and try it, if not I'm sure my lost puppy act, and "its for for charidee innit!" will melt the heart of LBS mechanics, and they will find one on the workshop floor....
