Not really a lot of help iff you want to use your bike every day is it though ?

This is the problem..........My bike is my work transport.
I gave in and phoned a bike shop to get the repair done. They wanted the bike for a week!!! A week to drill out two rivnuts and replace them.
I told them to forget it.

Anyway, i've now ordered an assortment of rivnuts from the internet to get the job done myself.

You are about to void your frame's warranty.

No. Why are you ?

Do some people really have only one bike?!?

The failure is almost certainly covered by warranty. Bodging it at home - whether it solves the problem or not - will void that warranty.

Perhaps the OP could borrow a bike, or rent one. Or buy a used bike and sell it after how ever long it takes to sort the issue. Or take the bus.

Just to let you know, i've been intouch with the bike shop i purchased my bike from, in turn they've been intouch with Trek.
Trek only cover cracks in the frame for the life time warranty. The problem i have is wear and tear! As i though it would be.

As for the bodge comment..........I don't do bodge!!!

The shop are lying to you. Pure and simple. When i was managing bike shops failures of this kind were not uncommon. I wouldn't have taken no for an answer from my supplier.

If you are happy installing a rivet in thin wall aluminum tubing go ahead

I thin k Mickle is right. If the ally cracks around the rivnut when putting it in then the frames farkled and definitely no warranty then.

Please dont take that as an insult to your mechanical abilities Trev but from past experience aluminium can do strange things.
