Yep, great bike, had mine three years now and I 100% love it.

Upgraded the wheels for Kysrium SL,s and replaced the bars, stem and seatpost for Ritchey WCS carbon jobbies and its even better still!

Mine is equipped with ALEX RIMS RACE 28 AERO. I am a beginner, so cant really say if they r good or bad. I just generally enjoy the ride.

The chap at EVANS explained that my bike in general is a very good one, apart from the wheels/hubs, he explained that they are RUBBISH for a CARBON frame etc...and that they should be the FIRST thing I upgrade...if I do actually upgrade anything...

I tried getting info online, and their website is very poor. But I noticed that they spec them as "500g" each!

Isnt that good?

Is it true that upgrading my wheels will make a BIG difference? Are they really poor?

BTW, I'm 5'11" and weigh 93 kilos.....

I know..I know...

I intend to shed at least 10 kilos on the bike over the next 3 months..

Got to be 500g for rims only. (excluding hubs/spokes) I would hazard a guess that the Alex wheels are at least 2kg (for both).

You would probably have to spend a fair bit of money to get anything around the 1.5kg mark. IMO most people wouldn't be able to tell 500g weight difference either regardless of what people say.

If it was me, I'd use them till they die. Mind you, that hasn't stopped me buying another two sets of wheels just for the sexy factor .

That'll be lovely once you've taken the reflectors off

Also....i think clipless pedals would make a far bigger difference than new wheels. Enjoy the bike. You've got a good'un.

And the bell! With that colour scheme, you are going to struggle to get any wheels to look good I think. My daughter has the exact same colours on her Scott MTB

But I would certainly endorse the RS80 wheels. I have a set on my Audax bike, at £300 a pair they are equal to my £700 Kysrium SLs

Here is mine......

In fact I liked the colour scheme so much, I bought a matching MTB..........

Thanks!

I bought a pair of Ultegra 6610 SPD pedals off ebay, but I wouldnt dare put them on yet. I am not confident enough in traffic, especially at traffic lights etc..
I'll give it a few more days/weeks then i'll put them on.

Are the reflectors a newbie thing?

I didn't say that there was a problem with the colour scheme, I said that you would struggle to get wheels to match with it.

This is an audax bike, or at least this is my audax bike. Slightly relaxed frame geometry, mudguards clearance and a triple chainset. And and its steel, coz as we all know steel frames make the best frames.

Oh no SPD's on a road bike !?? Now that will certainly ruin the look ;-) seriously though I'd recommend SPD's over SPD sl road platforms for commuting but nothing else.

Good pedals too. Don't worry about them for commuting, they'll be great once you've got the confidence. Make sure first time you try them you use the little allen screw to set them at their lowest tension to make it easiest to clip-in/clip out.

Yup, reflectors are a newbie thing. Bike shops are legally supposed to sell bikes with reflectors, but they spoil the aesthetics so much that they generally get removed instantly. Not many people leave them on.
