Thorntons or Hotel du Chocolat ?

These two are next door to each other in Edinburgh's Frederick Street. As a former resident of Derby, just down the road from Belper, Thorntons always used to be my default choice but more recently, I don't know, it just seems not so appealing.

Hotel Chocolat without a doubt. It knocks Thornton's into a cocked hat. And there's usually somebody on duty with a plate of free samples this time of year.

We had a Swiss company come see us the other week and they brought the nicest chocolate I've ever tasted:

IMO Hotel du Chocolat is far better - but, I still don't think it is great.

Hotel Chocolate is leagues above Thorntons, make sure you get plenty for yourself.


I remember when Thorntons was seen as posh chocolate, but we also used to think Nescafe was top quality coffee, the World has moved on so much since thrn.

Hotel Chocolat is much better chocolate, but some people prefer Thortons style chocolate, plus you can get more for your pound from Thortons. So it really depends on the recipient.

(If they like Starbucks, definitely Thortons )

No contest between those two. HdC every day. Mind you if you like serious chocolate with no fripperies then try Cocoa Runners (online only)

I get a free box of Thornton's every year from work, so that ends up with Mrs ND anyway, but she was more impressed with the chocs I got her from the Hotel du chocolate during my 3 hour wait at Kings cross yesterday...

I clicked on 'other' because £land and the 99p shop offer LOTS of chocolate cheap. That's good enough for me.

Aldi dark chocolate is lovely.
