Well, now that you mention it, it is rather interesting that the things to be liked about the UK are something of a random collection of attributes. Perhaps that comes from another feature of the UK which one may or may not find rather likeable, namely the lack of systematization in much of UK public life. Oddball things which other countries find bizarre or even laughable such as proving your identity or place of residence with a gas bill; or by refusing standard identity documents and so effectively creating a right to disappear, reinforced by a right to use any name you like so long as your purpose is not illegal. In many ways it is a culture where historical accident trumps rationality — and all of that is something which some people will rather like and others find rather bewildering, even dangerous.
