I had a Volvo C70 T5.
It was massive, very fast in a straight line but handled like the QEII.
I got rid in the end as I just didn’t use it that much and felt a bit of a prat.
I think convertibles need to be garaged in winter as they are more prone to leaks than a standard car.

I used to have a Corsa with a sunroof. Does that count?

When I was a yoof a friend of mine had a very posh girlfriend who drove an MG midget. No one I knew at the time even had a car, let alone a fancy sporty one. Anyway she gave me a lift once and I couldn't get out of the damn thing. In the end I had to roll on my back on the pavement then shake car off my foot.

I sat my advanced test in it and got a few lessons from a police driving instructor. It was amusing watching him getting in and out.

Someone I know has an MX5. It's bloody cold.

I once had an intention to hire a convertible. I was in San Francisco and had this idea of driving over the Golden Gate bridge, up the coast and back via the Nappa Valley. I had a few beers that evening and got up too late to bag my preferred vehicle. I still did the journey as planned but in some generic hire car special. Not quite as cool. Had a decent 'surf and turf' on the way back though.

Just remembered this thread and thought - everyone seems to have/want a convertible car for the summer. I've never actually ridden in one!

You’ve definitely missed out, we’ve owned two, they’re brilliant fun

I had one in the 90s. In the winter I’d wear a flying jacket with leather gloves and have the roof down. I also worked out that if it rained, then 80 or above the rain would just blow over. This worked well, one time returning from Wales, till we hit traffic as we joined the M6. Then young kids in the back of cars laughed at the two getting wet in the soft top. Great little car when you are young and don’t need anything more practical.

We had the removable hard top, for use in UK, in winter.

I did have a Nissan 100NX that had a "Targa" roof

the roof panels lifted off giving an open roof
sort of like a poor mans convertible but proper hard top in winter

The first year I had it was a very hot summer and it was great driving home in traffic in a cool car when everyone else was roasting

I was persuaded to sell it when we had a baby - dunno why - her car was quite big - easily big enough fo one child!

I was never cold in my old Vitesse, and pretty much only had the hood up if it was raining, whatever time of year it was. You needed the hood down as you had to keep the heater on full blast in the forlorn hope of stopping it overheating so if it was actually raining you'd boil !
