I recently enjoyed 'The Pillars of the Earth' by Ken Follett. It's very long and so should last you 10 days. If it doesn't there's a sequel called 'World without end' which is also a bit of a monster, by all accounts.

I picked that up in a charity shop 'cos I vaguely knew the writer's name. It was surprisingly good.

I hate to be the one to bring this up... but Robert Jordan died before finishing the series.

I believe his widow and someone are doing the final book, but I don't know if we will ever see it...
