Things shouted at cyclists

I had a young lad lean out of his car window as I crossed with him at a level crossing and say "real men ride women". Kind of made me smile even though it was entirely inappropriate and offensive. At least he was trying albeit failing to be funny rather than the usual abuse.

Along time ago now but someone once shouted "Nice legs, shame about the face!" as I pedalled past.

Years ago a bunch of 20yr old lads pulled up next to me at lights in a car, wound the window down and shouted "oi , why don't you get a car".
They might of reckoned their car was cool, but in reality my bike was worth at least twice as much, so I looked them up and down, sneered, and then said slowly with a puzzled look "why the **** don't you?".

Their expressions were priceless as they wound the window back up, amid mutterings of "uh, what did he mean by that, what's wrong with our car?" I was strong and fit in them days, would probably just shrug and smile feebly now....

“Get out of the way you bl*ck b*st*rd”. I was particularly peeved at the black bit. Had they said brown, I might have been more forgiving.

Other niceties include: “you fat b*st*rd”. No complaints here as they observed correctly.

I’ve also had young women in a stretched limo invite me in. But I gather that was the Prosecco talking.

So, the moral of the story…just take the comments on the proverbial chin and move on.

Frequently, when I'm riding the Bakfiets:

"Hey, cool bike"

The Xtracycle generally gets a few comments but not while I'm riding.

When wearing my Akubra I get occasional comments of "Ye-haw", "Howdy" or (generally in October) "Karneval is next month, mate."

I had a bloke comment 'You must be from the Tour de France' at a café stop. Came back with 'You must be from Weight Watchers'. He looked confused and didn't say anything more but his wife/partner almost pissed herself laughing.

Its 99.99% men who shout obcentities at cyclists not women IMO.
I've never had a woman shout anything ever but plenty of men. Its totally utterly pathetic.

I find it's incredibly rare to have obscenities thrown at me while cycling in Germany; I've been confronted, sometimes aggressively, but generally very spcifically about some percieved fault on my part; actual obscenities are rare. I've noticed that when I get aggression from women it's generally women in cars because they feel they can roll up the window and drive off, or threaten me with their car.

Men will be verbally aggressive, but women are often passive aggressive, especially with their car.

To be honest I often have no clue what they are shouting

I was about to turn right into a dirt track a few days ago and a car shot past on my left and someone shouted something

not a clue what he said (yup - a bloke) - could have been anything

I read many years ago that the human brain takes 3-4 words to tune into a strange voice - especially if it was unexpected
this is why call centre staff start with something unimportnat such as 'Good Morning this is thingy from whatsit- is that xxxxxx" rather than going right in with something important

I had something similar about ten years ago, with a, 'fwoarrrr!' added on as well from an early twenties passenger in a car full of women.

About 100 yards later the lights changed and I rolled alongside them laughing, you should have seen the embarrassed look on her face as the window quickly closed. 😂
