Just collected a 1980 Bickerton that looks as if its never been used, a quick look over, air in the tyres and a tryout own the lane
what a weird thing to ride.

also with it a 1970s Raliegh Folder, also needs a litte TLC and tyres.

The donor had taken them to our local bike shop, for a check over after she bought them some years back, who instantly condemned them as totally unsafe to ride on the ground the handlebars were loose... FFS its a folding bike!

If it's the shop I think it is he is a real miserable so and so,the worst kind of mamil, he exudes hate as soon as he's on a bike, and he's not that happy in his shop either. No advert for cycling.

Not sure what I am goin to do with either bike yet.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the contents of two garden sheds and a garage, but I'm sure it's all worth keeping^_^.

This came from a council 'Large Waste Disposal' truck when they came round to collect an old Sofa from us, it was on the back and they had to take the bike off to load it on so I asked if I could have the bike and they said yes.

It was a bit rough but new wheels, crank. mechs, brakes, saddle and post, and cables/chain sorted it.

I've saying that for 50+years:rolleyes:
I'll raise you one small barn, one big 20 x12 shed, 2 little ones and a good size yard.

I've been retired now for 4 years, and have spent most of that getting rid of the projects I had saved for my retirement.
Not going to live long enough to even start them let alone finish any.
When you get near your 3 score and ten, family start asking, "what you going to do with all this junk when you're gone?"

[the ones that sneer hardest will truly inherit all the junk:laugh:]

Photos of todays loot to follow later.

This is the 2nd one, I got this from a 'Rag and Bone' fella but TBH I had to give him a fiver for it but I'd been after a Raleigh 3spd for a while. (someone else had chucked it out though)

DSCN0038.JPG

It was originally 26" wheels but I had matching 700c rims laced onto the original SA hub and a front 'hubdyno' I'd got in the shed.
It had to have a new Crank fitted (I dislike steel 'cottered' ones) along with brake calipers, handlebars/stem and grips and I acquired a NOS rack.
It isn't quite finished yet but was assembled so I could test ride it and may refit the original mudguards (or some SKS/Bluemels) and the chainguard but I can't decide whether to or not and it also needs a Brooks (when funds permit)

#1 bickerton, after a bit of tlc seems fine

#2 Raliegh stowaway needs TLC and tyres

Lastly this Peugeot recoverd from a skip maybe 15yrs ago, it was cleaner than this when I found it,15 years in the barn covered in dust has not improved it, but itts a lovely ride with its big wheels, frame is quite big but suits me even though I am only 5'7"

Lots of wealth in my area, but they'd rather skip it than give it away to any of the charity shops around

My missus was at the tip the other day, a fella in his 30's pulled up next to her and asked her if she wanted an XBox 360, which he was throwing out as he was bored of it and he couldn't be bothered to put it on eBay.

Console, two controllers, four games, perfect working order.

Some folk are just spiteful, some years ago a guy pulled into our local dump and threw out a mint old type green Raliegh roadster, rod brakes and all, but.......the sod had cut it into three pieces, just to stop anyone else using it. Cleared from a relatives estate.

So you got a free frame?
No it was rideable when I got it (with the tyres pumped up) and it has slowly evolved into what it is now over the past 15yrs or so I've had it for instance that is the 3rd different crank it has had on and its 4th set of wheels (they've all gone onto different frames, I tend to swap bits around and may change this one further in the future)

I recently re-homed an 1980s Raleigh mixte frame which genuinely looked like it had never been ridden and like it had just come off the production line. It still had all the warning stickers on it.

The girl that bought it now wants to repaint it as she considers the lilac and white paint scheme too girlie:surrender::stop:
