They'll be wearing armwarmers next

BBC story here . Tony Cascarino reckons they are a sign of weakness and not being a real man. If only he'd could comment on armwarmers.....

I heard that the Liverpool goalie has got electric warmers in his gloves - normal goalkeepers rely on saving shots on goal to help keep their hands warm.

Arm warmers is a great idea - for the cycling fraternity on the move it could just catch on! I would make them in all sorts of colours except mucky brown...wouldn't like to see any arm dun.

How very tiresome of Mr Cascarino. One of those statements that says more about the speaker than the subject. Equally, I'm sure that in his day some equally antiquated opinion held that he was a nancy because he didn't smoke a pack of woodbines at half time, or some such.

I remember being a kid and being forced to play football at school. Hated it in winter as they still made you wear the shorts and T. And it was f***ing cold in an open field. And you knew it was cold as the ground was like concrete.

One of my most hated childhood memories.

The dictionary definition of snood (in the pic) on the beeb website is clearly not the snood that is being worn by players. What they are sporting (geddit?) is akin to what we were know as a buff, or perhaps a necktube. The old meaning of snood was for a hair-covering, as the definition shows. That kind of slack attention to detail annoys me no end. But there are more important things... like my first beer of the evening, which is coming up soon...
