I had a Canada Goose in my back garden once. I didn't think it would have a long enough run up to allow it to take off and get away so I started thinking about capture and release strategies. While I was off getting some food for it, it disappeared , so I guess I must have underestimated its takeoff potential.
On the subject of misrepresenting species , I once heard somebody in a park describe a Pochard as a Pollard.

10 on 10 Fossy :headshake:.

We taped up the whole 50 or so foot run of windows at about half one, I've just been back to check and it has indeed done one.

While we were taping up we could see it becoming agitated at the loss of its reflection and it was getting quite vocal.

Ah - that's good. Luckily it was a Canada goose - if it had been a Toronto Blue Jay...all the windows would have been broken with a baseball bat. :wahhey:

Update:

Just been back into the building for something else, found that it had got into the inner courtyard and was looking in the windows there.

It really is quite dim, cute but dim.

The river bank near where I live is never short of Canada Geese. Occasionally there is a Greylag hanging around with the Canadas. Birds like the one in my pic are not uncommon. A few years ago I saw an adult Canada/Greylag pair with three young in tow , all like the one in the pic.
If you Google ..... greylag canada hybrid ... you will find some discussion on the subject and quite a few pics.
I believe that when species interbreed like this the offspring are usually infertile.
