Hold on...have you edited this...or did I read it properly in the first place....YES it was a frayed cable (not outer). my shifter had shredded the inner at the bar end.

Ooh I had that earlier this year. A well planted boot on the rear mech helped in the short term. I did post pics.

My problem is related to a slightly squelchy noise on rebound with a pair of Fox 32 EVO forks (obviously air in the system but where and how to sort) and a very small knock in the first couple of mm of travel.

Doubt many of you road types are up on suspension so I will pass my turn on to someone else.

I didn't know elastomers could rot. Definitely a service required, but my guess would be seals gone and need replacing.
