First one to correctly tell me what the problem is gets a prize... I already know the solution...you need to correctly tell me what it was.

Oh and the prize is the right to post the next problem...( no unofficial problems will be considered...only prize-winners)

So, here goes.

Rear mech is failing to shift down, I have loosened the stop limit screws and adjusted the cable tightness with the barrel adjuster at the mech end...still wont shift.

So...

What's my problem?

Frayed cable in the outer or corrosion in the outers? Does it shift down when the cable is unattached on the mech?

Blimey...you are good. Took me an evening to work that one out.

Not a frayed outer no. It doesn't really shift either way properly, the shifter is just kind of dull and unresponsive.

vey warm though

Hmmmm. Either the shifter needs a re-grease, pivots on the mech are seizing (unlikely), crushed cable outer or as had happened once for me the outers were worn away by the cable and creating a groove/channel in the metal coil which they run through.

Edit - Or the outer has snapped where the cap joins and it sat at a funny angle

No crushed outers, pivots work (I can push the mech in and it springs out just fine.

the eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed that I edited my second post as i misread jodys suggestion and prematurely awarded victory...then realised @Jody was a tad off.

Hold on...have you edited this...or did I read it properly in the first place....YES it was a frayed cable (not outer). my shifter had shredded the inner at the bar end.

your turn.

No edit. First guess given your description :wahhey:

My problem is related to a slightly squelchy noise on rebound with a pair of Fox 32 EVO forks (obviously air in the system but where and how to sort) and a very small knock in the first couple of mm of travel.

Doubt many of you road types are up on suspension so I will pass my turn on to someone else.
