I said it's not a euphemism!

I have one like this and one like this

I want one of these and one of these.

I only have an oval of track with a couple of points and sidings and a whole string of assorted trucks.

I only have what comes with the set at the moment, but Im going to get the extension packs for the trak mat and complete that, Ill be extending as soon as thats complete, this is what its going to look like hopefully, a view from above.

I would quite like a C shaped layout in a large room with a shunting yard and stations at each end for the bulk of the layout. It would also have an express loop that passes by once in a while on two levels with a spiral loop at each end of the C shaped layout to change its elevation if you see what I mean.
I could leave the express running and plan my shunting and branch line around it's timetable.

I did start building this layout when I was a kid but found that I should have used N gauge as the OO gauge wasn't going to fit in my little bed room.

I am pushed for space, but ill still be able to have a mainline leading from the trak mat layout, so it can continue as if its a long distance one.Im hoping to model it all on my area, but time will tell.

Ahhh, the basic Flying Scotsman set. I had that one when they were still engine driven. My engine would have been worth a few hundred quid now as it was magnetic traction too. I gave it to a charity's fund raising to make some decent money but the chap running it pinched it for himself.

I'm not really into passenger trains much, as you may have gathered, I much prefer the long slow goods with double header and a banker for the hills.

I used to have a number of diesel locos like this, this and this.

Those two you have look like they are from a set?
I used to have a Hornby shunting set but the ex wife won it in the divorce.

I have been collecting individual locos and trucks and bits of track from car boot sales. They still occasionally find themselves onto the cheapo kids toys stands. I don't even have a proper power supply for the track yet, the one I had has been used to power my Lego Technic models. Didn't seem much point powering track without a layout.

I used to turn my Co-Co diesels around by hand when setting up long goods trains. I found that the drive bogie had to go at the rear of the loco to maintain stability. If it was at the front with a really heavy train then the non drive bogie would derail on the bends. I did also open the locos and add lead ballast to improve traction and give a more realistic weight to the whole train.

Thats a sickener about the charity thing, but hindsite is a wonderful thing eh?
Im more interested in the 1930/40 steam at the moment, but I like the diesel side too, just dont have the room or money to do them all so Ill stick with steam for the time being. What id like to do is have a long country side line with maybe a bridge to represent an area round here, but thats the future extension.

It sounds to me that you know more about this hobby than i first thought?

Its not the sort of thing i thought woman would fight for? Shame as i too like these sorts of set ups, but again its space and cost.

I knew how much the engine was worth at the time which is why I offered it to charity. I was just pissed off that the chap pocketed it instead of using it to raise money.

Yep, I'm an 'Anarak'! My first train was a 1 gauge clock work tin train that looked a bit like Ivor the Engine. Must have been in 1970 and it was old then.

She liked the sound of the train running round an oval and the smell of the ozone from the brush motor (remined her of her Dad and his work smell), and she paid for it so she claimed it.

Iv always had an interest, read the mags and browsed the odd book, but its my first try at a real set up. Basic in relation to most, but its a learning curve for me, thats why iv decided to go the trak mat way and add the extra packs till its finished. Hopefully by then ill have a better understanding how it all works enough so i can start my extension.
