The state of the roads.

The roads of our suburban utopia are getting surface dressed again. I think they were last done two years ago.

I hate surface dressing. Still got the chattering of the chippings contacting mudguards / inner wheel arches when cycling/driving up and down our road, from the last time it was done. Not to mention the extra spice of drivers passing and flinging up projectiles.

In fact, when I'm driving, the last thing I want to do is fling up a stone that cracks someone elses windscreen so I drive slowly until the surface is swept. Net result of that is drivers overtake impatiently flinging chippings up everywhere. It doesn't seem to matter how fast you do drive, anything under the speed limit (not the advisory limit) seems to draw you into conflict.

I'm all for more strade bianche as they lead to some interesting places with good weather. But potholes here are becoming a serious nuisance ever for cars.

There is a means of reporting potholes to the local CC here who have the responsibility for roads. But I get the feeling that they've given up doing anything until the next lot get it.

Anyway back to strade bianche for those planning their summer rides.

Wilteshite (not a typo) council have gone bonkers dressing even perfectly good roads for stretches over several miles but today takes the biscuit, they dressed a road at the bottom of one of the steepest descents at the point where is bends left, leaving three long channels of what i can only assume is leftover gravel in deep piles/ruts, even cars are going to struggle for grip on that corner.

I need to report this for us Windshire cyclists but also as a general road hazard, this is huge waste of our tax payers money and annoying as feck given all the roads in the area badly in need of repair, any kind of repair.

I want to know who is inspecting the quality of the work? They need firing.

Currently our roads are not too bad but some years ago there were numerous pot holes getting bigger and unrepaired.
Some joker planted some flowers in one or two and put up a sign asking drivers to avoid them.
This got a bit of publicity and thereby got the repairs done promptly.
This would not work under present day conditions.

One of our local lanes has just been done French style. It’s fantastic and smooth as a baby’s bum. Going to enjoy not having to dodge holes and rough tarmac worried I’ll get thrown off. Complete resurface, would have thought?

One of ours has too. One of the uphill lanes on my homeward commute. Amazing how much easier it is to ride up when nice and smooth.
