Initial on field red was because it was his second yellow, incident went for off field review, which upgraded second yellow to a red.
There are different post match sanctions depending on whether it's a double yellow red, or a straight red offence.

Not much being said about Italy in the press. I thought they were pretty good, a bit like last year when they nearly beat France in the first match. Their next best chance is against Scotland at home although I expect their resolve will have gone after Ireland and France. They were much more organised than usual and didn’t give up.

Italy were great! I could see them getting a result against anyone really based on that performance.

Yes, they seem to start tournaments well but not surprisingly they run out of steam in the later matches. The fixtures have not been kind with the next weakest side on current form, Wales, being the last match and away.

I'd agree with that. And I think in the past they've often had great players, but never in the same team. With the Treviso chaps they seemed much more cohesive yesterday.

After the loss of JPR just weeks ago another of that great era, Barry John, has died. His half-back partnership with Gareth Edwards was wonderful to watch.

One thing I didn't get about the France dismissal was the ref giving him the red on the pitch, then after half time saying it has been a yellow upgraded to a red.

I've not seen or heard of it for the same offence, but I have when a player has been pinged for something individual, then picked up for a team infringement, which seems very harsh but I believe can be open to interpretation depending on the circumstances.

Yep, I’m sure it was grounded. Oh well. They went a bit off the boil in the second half and I thought they kicked too much instead of holding possession.

No, not cheating. it has to be 100% to overturn the refs on field decision.
If the infield ref had said it was a try they wouldn’t overturn it.
It’s like umpires call in lbw decisions. The refs initial view has a lot of influence.
