Being from an Southern Irish family, of course Catholicism was the only religion. It was a given. Just about all 5 of us siblings bar my sister were never believers. My mum and dad were though, so a Catholic service it was all be a shortened one. We didn't want the mass for my mum. It was over in 20 minutes then onto the cemetery.

That's what I'm hoping as I heard the full service goes on a bit! Obviously it will be a mix of faiths plus people with no faith that will be attending so I'm sure they will keep it short.

Mrs D was raised a Catholic and doesn't believe.

I'm from a mixed Jewish (ma) and CofE (pa) background, was not raised in any religion (dad was quite cynical about organised religion) and yet I do believe. Go figure.

It's not something we really talk about. I'm not spending my time trying to convert folk, and folk generally don't want to be converted, so I keep it to myself and everyone's happy.

I've got a quiet sort of faith too, although I've lapsed from attending Church I'm afraid.

On facebook I follow a group called True Coventarian and during the week they put up a group of old Coventry pictures daily, amongst this mornings pictures was one from the old Butts Stadium probably from the 1960's of what appears to be Moultons being raced in front of a good crowd.

Being from a Southern Irish family also, I spent years ( from age 8 ) being an altar boy. This meant having to serve daily 8am mass and on Sunday mass which lasted an hour. Luckily for me I wasn't rear scuttled by any priest during those years . I resent my mother insisting I kept it up for years . Lots of the old paedophile priests roaming about in those days , the bishop would move one to a different parish if there were complaints about any particular one interfering with kids. I loath the lot of them and havn't gone near any church since age 12.

Think Catholic services are a bit more sombre aren't they. Safer to wear black or dark clothing too?

A full requiem mass is about and hour long has it will have Holy Communion in with the service.

Morning all :hello:

Had rain overnight here in Chapmanslade and looking showery today.
We all went to Nunney Castle yesterday and had a nice lunch in the George.
The gang's splitting today - two couples are going shopping in Frome and MrsD & I are going to visit three Iron Age hill forts.
Shopping really isn't my preferred activity at any time, especially when it involves hours of mooching around charity shops.

Charity shops = YAWN!

One of my S-I-L's will spend hours in these High St blights - can't be doing with them.

Mrs @BoldonLad, and, her family are Roman Catholics, so, I am sometimes called upon to attend weddings/funerals/christenings. The two things I notice is:

- the dressing in black dark colours for funerals is becoming less common

- lots of people who attend (including me) have absolutely no idea what to "do", so, they are clearly not regular attendees

Mrs @BoldonLad is a solid believer, me, equally solid non-believer. We just don't discuss it, we just accept that we are each entitled to our own view.

No disrespect to your relationship intended but I honestly could not be in a relationship with a Believer, for want of a better description.

Same with politics too, unless similarly aligned I couldn't do it.
