The train went to York where we were detached, the Royal carriages went, with diesels front and rear, to Scarborough to bring old Richmond fingers back,

Went into a railway modellers shop recently after seeing an Airfix HO/OO gauge signal box in the window.
Based on the box at Oakham, the kit was released in 1979 and here, it was priced at £5. A snip - ! Gorrit - !

Yeah, the locos that are nicknamed 'Skips', because if you were to turn the bodyshell upside down and look at the shape... Well.

incidentally, I think the correct term is 'Claret', but 'wine' is close enough. 😆

Being next to the railway means I get to see unusual stuff that I'd miss if I was only there for an hour. This is a tram delivery from Stadler in Switzerland. I don't know where but someone may recognise the tram.

Not an enthusiast, and therefore cannot see how an 86 or 87 can be anything other than a non-entity. They have the styling of a brick, and........ zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

What?! Diesels were ten a penny and needed sod all imagination to like. 😝Electrics were for us more sensitive and imaginative peeps, something you clearly knew nothing about.
The noise alone was a major part of my childhood, watching the coming and goings at Glasgown Central and the fact I was a WCML boy through and through - my Day was not complete unless I'd seen one ,(class 86 or '87).
The fact that I also grew up with the '303s'/'311s' helped.

A lot of it was also down to the names - Lancaster Witch, Meteor, Planet, Comet, Fury, Phoenix... Hardwicke, Sir Henry Johnson, Starlight Express, Crown Point, Abraham Darby... Elizabeth Garret Anderson, Wulfruna, LSE, Aldaniti!... Patriot, Britannia, City Of Glasgow, King Arthur, The Knight Of The Thistle, John 'O' Gaunt, Iron Duke, Earl Marishal, Velocity, Lord Of The Isles, Wolf Of Badenoch, Hal 'O' The wynd, Cock 'O' The North... Stephenson.
