User3143, your instructions on putting on the Marathon Pluses were interesting. I considered those for my trike but knew I wouldn't be able to get them on or off (I have a weak arm) so went for the Big Apples instead. I know none of you speedy road types would be seen dead with Big Apples but they've been great for me. I had a completely puncture free period, then with excessive wear (my tracking was out) I got two two days running and replaced them. Not expecting any more punctures for a while now (fatal words, I know).

The rear Big Apple has done about 2800 miles now and shows minimal wear and tear and hasn't had a puncture. The front two of the last set (with dodgy tracking) only managed 1500 miles but now the tracking's fixed the replacements are already clearly holding their tread (and puncture-resistance) better.

I think the innards of the M+ are the same as the Big Apple. It seems to work for me!

I've not actually used the M+s, but on 2 bikes switched from non-kelvar belt tires to regular Marathons on one and Marathon XRs on the other and both pretty much did the job of borking punctures - i.e. primarily stopping the weekly hawthorn flat. The XRs have had 1 pinch flat over approx 4k miles, the regulars have had 1 puncture over about 3k - a flint the shape of a chisel-head impacting absolutely square to the tyre. So if there's anything lighter or easier to get on in the marathon range might also be worth consideration.

A trick to get BRAND NEW awkward tyres onto rims.

Coil them up. Hold them in a metal coathanger and put them in a warm oven for a few minutes.

They will enlarge slightly, just enough to make it easier.

+ (whatever number we're up to) for the M+

I've had mine for over a year now doing my daily commute, and so far not one P*.

The tread started to wear down on the back, but I swapped them over when I fitted new wheels.

I don't even bother to check for debris anymore.

They are a bit heavy but you soon get used to them, and much preferable to standing in the rain changing a tube.

Speaking of which, I use Schwalbe inner tubes, mainly because that is what my LBS stock and I have confidence in the tyres, so why not the tubes.

Whatever is equal to 50 C or the rails are not too hot to touch.

Try to schedule the tyre fitting to when Mum, Mrs or GF finishes a cake. xx(

ps let the oven cool after a 200 C cake bake

Another vote for Marathon Plus tyres. If you want a belt and braces approach, put in a Slime tyre liner as well which gave me 4 years without a puncture on the same set:biggrin:

Ask yourself, "Whose oven is it?"

At the altar, you said "and all that I have I share with you,"

Its YOUR oven and you share it with her. Tell her that

Today's delivery - yum yum! Marathon + with Accompanying Innertubes.

The inner tubes come with a little booklet - well illustrated - giving good information. As I found out all too soon.
(Also in the goody bag from SpaCycles were a pair of Lusso bib longs which I wore today and they are very comfy...)
