Just came across this ride on the 26th September based from Stoke on Trent... Just seeing if many people off here have already signed up or planning on signing up for the ride...

3 rides........ pro ride - 161km This ride takes place a week after the official professional race and allows you to take on the full road stage of The Tour of Britain, beginning and ending in Stoke-on-Trent. This stage will be a unique chance for riders to test themselves over the challenging terrain of Staffordshire. There will be Tour of Britain directional signage, static and motorcycle marshals, mechanics, well-stocked feed stations and medical support along the whole route. You'll be well cared for and treated just like the professionals.

challenge ride - 80 km Just over a week after the actual professional race, riders will take on part of the road stage of The Tour of Britain, beginning and ending in Stoke-on-Trent. You'll be able to experience the thrill of riding under The Tour of Britain start and finish gantry, be able to stop at well-provisioned feed stations and have the full support of marshals and ride support vehicles throughout your journey.

family ride 1km - 25km Riders of all size, age and ability will be able to experience the buzz of The Tour of Britain a week after the professional race. The 25km course has been designed with families in mind and is a circular course beginning and ending in Stoke-on-Trent. Families and friends will be able to ride along carefully selected quiet roads and tow paths which are well signed, marshalled and with a picturesque well-stocked feed station on route.

Looks pretty good and well organised....

I've got an entry to the "Challenge" ride, filling in for my brother in law's brother's work team, who've had a couple of people pull out.

It'll be my first sportive - a few people who did last years' rides say it's really good.

I'd be interested in anyone who's done it before's opinion on what to take - I'm used to doing this sort of distance carrying the food & hydration I'd need myself (top tube bag of soreen & winegums, couple of bottles on the bike). Do I need to be quite so self sufficient given the feed stops &c?

Oh nice 1.. Im considering entering for the pro ride as i know i could easily do the challenge as doing over that distance regularly but fancy pushing myself a bit more... need to send an e mail out in work this afternoon to see if any of our bike group fancy it aswell..
i believe last year there was over 1600 people doing it but they can cope with upto 3000 so hopefully this year there will be more entries with it been the 2nd year..
as for the feed stops i think you should be able to get by with carrying just a few energy satchets and just make sure you fill bottles whenever you can at feed stops...

did anyone else on here do last years????

Aye - I do forties & fifties (miles) fairly regularly, but his work team is in for the 80k, so that's what I'm doing!

I'm sure you know, but GPX files &c are up on the site so you can see the profiles &c.

I did the Pro Tour ride last year and it was pretty well organised but it was a slightly shorter distance, 145km I think.

I heard good things about the one last year and signed up for this years pretty quickly after it was anounced. I didn't think I'd get the training time in for the 100 mile ride with family commitments and I've never ridden close to a ton in one day. The fifty doesn't worry me as I've ridden that kind of distance previously. Training time has been "limited" at best. Five trainig rides before I did a triathlon in June (spent most of my training time trying to crack swimming front crawl) and three consecutive sundays in August of 15, 30 and 55 miles. Nothing for three weeks . I'l be the fat bloke starting at the front and finishing at the back in one of my horrific jerseys with a big smile on my face .

Hi,

Yes, but only the 50 mile "challenge" ride, a couple of the hills on the 100 mile event are just that little bit too evil for me right now. Does anyone know what last years results were, just the approx fastest times?

Cheers
