Saw a lone F35 flying over my Fine City yesterday. Do they have a quiet mode because you can hear them very well.
A network of listeners with flashlights can id their track using earball mk1.

That's the Decoy, the other five were in quiet mode.

probably just fly higher
Assuming it was at some lofty altitude, the airstream direction it's flying in could take the sound away from you.

I've had the same in reverse, I remember as a kid on RAF Syerston, sat in the middle of nowhere, nothing to be seen for miles...and yet I could hear music wafting across. It was the wind carrying the sound from much further away.

Yes - I once saw a UFO while walking my dog at the beach
- light in the sky - seemed stationary and came quite close and overhead - ZERO sound
a lady came up to me and asked me what I thought it was and I said it must be a plane - but she got scared and left as it was so weird

eventually the plane must have got landing permission from Liverpool airport and fly overhead again and kept going inland - it was quite a way inland before the engine sounds came to us

The winds up above were different to ground level - but it was very weird

Yesterday...
Woke at 06.50 by the roar of military jet fighter overhead, the often heard roar of an aircraft not going very fast ( they often do this, evasive manoeuvres I assume)
Adsb wasn't showing it so probably US.
That lasted for 10, 15 minutes. Never bothers me even though its very loud. Various people bemoaning the noise on FB.

Later, something heavier, straight line flight passed overhead but a distinct 'whistle' audible among the roar, similar to B52s I've heard before. Cloudy so no sight of it at all

Again, not showing on Adsb

USAF B52's have been based at Fairford for a while conducting exercises. They are due to return to the USA sometime this week.

Hi new to this thread and not into planes as such but really enjoy I good break with a cuppa and watching the Greenland Airports channel on YT.
They have live cams on a load of airports and heliports which are in the most picturesque locations. It is very slow on aircraft traffic so not maybe for everyone on this thread, but plenty for those who like aurora, glimpses of wildlife (Polar bears have been spotted), and Trump One paying a visit to Nuuk. One of the downsides to having the runway upgraded . You could see the Red Arrows visit to Narsarsuaq last summer which caused great excitement for the locals.

Sorry if this has already been covered but I haven’t read all 137 pages, and nothing came up on a search for Greenland Airports.

27th March the legendary RAF Puma HC Mk2 helicopters will say a fond farewell to sites in North Yorkshire.
A convoy flight of Pumas that have served in the RAF since 1972 will head over Ribblehead Viaduct, Catterick & RAF Leeming.

Variously known in service as the Plastic Pig, Plastic Pursuit Ship or simply Percy.

I see Canada and some eu nations are considering cancelling orders for F35s, partly as a punitive measure against the US and partly to decrease reliance on the US as a supplier. Typhoon, Grippen and Rafale sales expected to get a boost.

The UK is a bit bolloxed and needs the 35B, unless the carriers undergo major rebuilds to CATOBAR configuration. This is technically possible, they boats were designed with that as an alternative layout and apparently have a lotmof redundant structure and empty spaces to accommodate a conversion. However, it'll cost money the MOD doesn't have, and who wants to lose a deck for years just as Russia is getting bolshy?

Heaven safe us from governments. If they hadn't tried to do it on the cheap in the first place we wouldn't be in the mess we are now.

I think the high command of USAF and RAF are probably saying business as usual guys... Trump will pass... 🤔👍
