Scone update...

Well, Elmer's recipe turned out fine. I may have flattened them a bit too much though - they came out of the oven about 4 inches across!

Can I have one then please ? Real butter on mine.

The problem with home-made scones is that they can be perfect but they dry out in a couple of hours, which is why shop scones contain humectants or something.

A friend told me about a pub in Swindon that does a very nice ham, egg and chips. A vegetarian girl went in with them one day and asked for egg and chips to be told "sorry, we don't sell that love".

She had to go back and order ham, egg and chips but no ham please. This was ok and the barman didn't think it odd at all.

Ah, real butter.... scones are the only thing I allow myself to have real butter with nowadays.

Least it means I can enjoy them with a relatively clear conscience!
