I am experienced and was confident got a new bike, now I’m a beginner again.

“I Don’t believe it” I'm convinced that the old bike always gave out a constant 50 watts: has anybody experienced similar?

50 watts ? Sounds like not a lot to me. I think I'm right in saying most "experienced" cyclists can put out a good bit more than that.
What equipment are you using to measure your power output?

Hi PpPete I tried to imply that the bikes 50 watts, was a supplement an extra!

Now I don’t seem to have that help, or so it seems.

Is you're speed significantly lower? 50 Watts would have quite an effect on your average speed.

Is the set-up the same? Could be you're sitting differently on the new bike compared to the old one - check saddle height, saddle-bar distance, and how far behind the BB the saddle is.

Good thinking I will try that

should have given more info: apologies, but got soap flavour in the dinner! good in gym rubbish on road

Review: on old MTB I can hold 18 mph from Chester to Shotton, alongside the river; with the weight and drag of 4 panniers, on the new road bike, I think it will be a lot slower time, with no panniers or load on, why?

Dude, this reads like you typed it in Chinese and then translated using Google Translator. Maybe you did? In which case: Chapeau.

Have you measured the speed or is it just perception? And make sure you're comparing apples with apples. Cycling in damp, cold October is not the same as in July/August.

Yes compare like for like, moved saddle forward 10 mm. Did 27 miles around Oldham, much better performance. Tried to do a steady cadence with sprints after 10 miles, really enjoyed it confidence returning. In Manchester the weather's been that bad in the last 12 weeks, I have only done 70 miles. This week I have managed over 50 for the fist time, the gym's fine but there’s nothing like road miles.

I think your motivation is the problem, not the weather

My mistake, but I swear you just blamed it in the weather.
Good morning amaferanga from a sunny Manchester, thanks for your input: on reflection I may have come across as negative. No intention, It's just that the situation has presented me with a complex training problem. On tour on MTB, I can carry 15 K, 50 miles across country, get up at 6am no ache's or pains and start all over again. On light road bike 30 miles at only 10 % higher average speed, legs ache and need to rest for 2 days. Just trying to puzzle it out. Cheers Zoof
