I have recently taken to using a washing up brush and degreaser for my big cleans.

What do you use for your 'small cleans' then, Tom?
Our washing up brushes have a life in three parts: washing up; utility room (shoes and boots); bike cleaning.
Worth having one for bits that may be oily and one for the rest of the bike, and taking care not to mix the two.

in the seventies we used to call this very method "cleaning a chain".

Gotta move with the times dude.
