Ha ha! I had Campfire down as a boy as well till she mentioned 'girly' type clothing :ohmy:

And my 'trusty steed' is a Brompton, so twice wrong :smile:

Thanks for the Chocolate Fish link. I'm interested in merino-possum stuff because it's supposedly warmer and, interestingly, more hard wearing.

I have 2 IceBreaker 200 base layers, an IceBreaker 260 top (they call it base, I use it as an outer!), an IceBreaker chute (neck scarf thing, for motorcycle use) and a Kathmandu sports wool/merino mix top.

Oh, another couple of links perhaps;

LewisKIT socks - currently 6 for £24. Not my favourite but a pretty good price.

Kathmandu - NZ merino with shops in the UK; pretty pricey outside of sales, when you can get some really good buys!

i was reading about the possum stuff and it was saying you need to get the sizing right as there is little stretch in it. Apparently its good for reynolds syndrome sufferers.

Got an Endura BaaBaa Merino S/S Base Layer today, just been out for a spin to test it. Wore it under a zip neck top and it is lovely and warm, usually I take a Medium but had to get a Large they are a very tight fit but then I guess they need to be. I think I will get the L/S version as well for when it get colder.

My Merino;
Howies basic T shirt. Worn at least once a week for the last five years, now nearing the end of it's life, but has been worth every penny.
Howies long sleeved thick base/midlayer, no longer made, a very clever top using three thickneses of merino. Worn on its own spring and autumn or under a windproof. Again worth every penny. Howies used to do a much bigger range of merino, a pity they don't now.
Icebreaker T shirt, OK but never as comfy as the Howies, stitching came undone in a few places after a couple of years.
M&S Merino socks, mid or light weight, not a lot dearer than cotton socks and about the only socks I've bought in the last few years.
Merino alternatives - The 80% silk 20% merino T shirt that Backpackinglight stock is the comfiest, best wicking baselayer I've ever tried, not sure of it's longevity but I'll be replacing all my others with these as they wear out.
Bamboo T shirt, I so wanted this to work, not least for the £15 price, but it isn't as good in a few ways. It's heavier and bulkier for touring, doesn't wick as well and takes ages to dry. It is a very nice T shirt, just not the best for cycling.

Vintage Velo & Woolistic

Tharg2007 said:
Has anyone had any experience with vintagevelo or woolistic. It seems that you can only order from vintagevelo and you have to pay $15 for shipping, even though it could get shipped from EU, plus you may get charged import duty if it comes from US. Woolistic is in Switserland so seems strange that they have no EU outlet even for web.
I wanted to buy a top from them but when contacting woolistic they seemed quite indiferent to the confusion the ordering, shipping, duty, returns were causing.

I think this is because "Vintage Velo" are a US company selling various brands, one of which is Woolistic from Switzerland - except that I don't think its actually "Swiss". The merino they use is Australian so for those of you who don't like the idea of mulesing, this probably isnt for you. As they don't say where they make their stuff, then its almost certainly made in China. You have to dry it flat which suggests the quality isn't that good. The good stuff you can line dry. Had a look at other stuff from Vintage Velos and it all looks overpriced to me - but if you want to pay for "go faster logos" .......:birthday:

im not really into go faster logos, they do a couple of plain tops, the black cross and the gray tri-colore. Woolistic appear to be swiss but are probably owned my a US company, maybe this is why they sell through us site. Anyway, i recon someone selling plain designs in proper merino with cycling fit cut would do really well.

Choc Fish Rocks!

So glad that someone else is recommending Chocolate Fish gear. I'm just about to leave for Antarctica (www.commonwealthexpedition.com) and the whole team is wearing Chocolate Fish gear. We have used it during training in New Zealand and Norway and it was great.
Love the socks - they have possum in them as well as merino - so, warm but not itchy.
