I hate adult toy collectors! :cursing: Well, not really, I just wanted to rant.😩
I'm totally fine with adults buying them and building them (as per this thread) but keeping them sealed to increase in value is just speculation and in general causes a lot of trouble (e.g my kids being unlikely to ever own their own home, until we pop off) but hey, as long as it makes more money for people with money that's totally fine...

And to the point. Autistic son who is Star Wars and Lego mad gave us his Christmas list and there are two sets on there. Both it seems are discontinued and prices for new sealed ones are silly.

75171 Battle of Scarif and 75190 First Order Stardestroyer. The battle set looks like a generic 30 quid play set to me, not really a model for display. But must have been rare as it seems to be going for around 100 quid used!

The Stardestroyer looks like a great model for him but again, "retired" and north of 100 quid for used built models without box. Sealed ones seem to be 300 or so.

We've bought him the 75356 Executor, which is a "collectible display model" but the only Stardestroyer lego model at a reasonable price. I end up building the more complex sets anyway so that's no issue. He's fine with smaller sets, and his dexterity is good, it's just the attention span to build a bigger kit. I'm slightly concerned that once I build it for him I'll want one for myself to put on the shelf.

How do I explain to 11yo with autism that the reason Santa didn't bring what he asked for is commodity speculation? I know, first world problems etc, there are kids in this country without a bed.

It was son's birthday a couple of weeks ago, so a few weeks prior I started looking round online and managed to find an eBay seller with one or more sealed 75190 Star destroyer kits. £180 but I thought unlikely to be available anywhere lower this so I bought it. Worth it for the look on his face! 😍

It was an enjoyable build too!

Only 493 pieces (492 in mine:sad:) so reasonably quick but a very fragile build in places and the instructions I found unclear in a couple of places.
One incorrectly implied a shorter piece should be used whiie the fitting of the angled part on the side was more obvious looking at the model.
I had watched YouTube videos and noted the stand is liable to try to come apart. Assembled a few bits with added black tack. Had to do the same with the mini figure as it too easily came off the stand or lost its tablet.
The missing part is the bar in front of the left hand cord roller in the upper photo. Request made for one. Seems to be enough tension in the cord without it to allow the flapping of the wings.

Just finished building this bad boy:-

Such a fun build and lots of nice details. By pushing a section at the rear, the landing gear are deployed. The rear ailerons and tail fins are all adjustable with the ailerons being controlled by the top rocket booster. The hubble fits inside the shuttle and can be displayed mid deployment.

The front cockpit lifts off to show the crew area:-

The hubble itself has an opening / closing lens door.

Great fun to build (17 bags!), although I recommend not trying to do it on a carpet. It took quite a lot of pressure on a solid surface to get the base plates to lock in properly and stop falling off. The other annoyance is that all the reflective silver panels on the cargo area are stickers and it's impossible to get them all square and lined up properly.

I'm now building the Lego radio (with sound brick) that I got for Christmas!

The missing part found. No idea how it had got into the kitchen. Picked up a shopping bag and heard something fall.
Problem solved as the request for it had failed verification.
Had to put more black tack on the stand parts as it tried to come apart elsewhere to as shown in YouTube videos. Obviously the original black tack works but pushed the weak element elsewhere.
Have ordered a motorising kit from Zene Bricks so it can flap its wings by itself.
