I have noticed, along with many others probably, that CB rides one of his own bikes on his slot on the highlights show, but without and decals, strange as his bikes feature heavily in the advertising for the show.

That'd be product placement, which I assume is a whole other kettle of fish.

A couple of years ago (when Merida started knocking out bike frames under the 'cboardman' name), he'd ride his fully stickered bikes in those route-recce features. Obviously there were complaints that it was free advertising, so iirc he sprayed over the sticker but you could still see it if you looked hard enough (not in a Vinny Jones sense - I mean if you studied the downtube closely). Thereafter, he removed all traces of his name and thus we now find ourselves watching Chris riding his un-monikered product.

I keep wanting to shout at the telly, "So there's an extra two steps for you to aspire to Chris as you're never getting the top one"

That's what I always think when I hear it, except that it isn't Chris I think of saying it, just the smug twat doing the voice over.

They annoy me too, but I'd say them if they paid me enough.

They are absolutely obnoxious, I agree, but if someone was to pay me with one of his bikes, then I'd say it too!

Cheesy yes but so are many cycling ads. While I generally prefer Eurosport, I like Boardman and his slots on ITV. While I don't ride one, but fair play to him as his bikes have made decent quality much more accessible to folk (for example, where I live they are the only bikes you can sit on and buy without travelling a fair distance)
