Well that was bloomin' hard work. I was woken up by the wind and thought best I just turn over and go back to sleep. But dragged my arse up and into cycling gear. Having brekkie I read that a friend of mine had to bail this morning due to a mechanical and lack of motivation. That nearly did it for me. But nope.. out into the inky blackness at 7am with the bike. Down to Ashford on country lanes for brunch and a return via the lovely Wye valley.
The winds were swirling and blustery pretty much all the day with the return blighted by headwinds. It made for slow, plodding progress. A short, freezing rain shower at 3pm didn't help. But I got it done.
14th calender year in a row of the Imperial Century a Month challenge done and dusted. 2025 is around the corner and it starts again.
So..scores on the doors
101 miles for the day.

Well done, you certainly didn't choose the easiest day! Were talking about you today, @rb58 said you were going for it.

Hi there mile munchers. The 2025 thread is now up.

I'm going to try and get out first week of January as long as it's not Icy or minus temperatures, I learnt my lesson about that a few years back and dont want a repeat. I can't be doing with any injuries as 2025 is a big year. My 15th year of this challenge and I'm also entering LEL in August.

So, I hope to see the usual mile munchers here this year and hoping for some new faces too.

See you on the road folks.

New year's eve seems a good time to post a map of all my qualifying rides over the last 6 years, since January 2019. These aren't all my centuries, just the first of each month which I have declared on here for the monthly challenge.

There are just three rides missing, in Shetland, Germany and Italy, but they don't fit neatly on this map.

And we're off. My 15th year started today.
A figure of 8 loop around the highways and byways of the Garden Of England.
It was cold, never getting above 5° all day, mainly hovering around the 1 and 2° mark. But it was dry and the sun made a welcome appearance for a while. The cold and a bit of a headwind did make for hard going at times. It really is much harder doing these rides in the winter. Even in dry weather. The rain we had all day yesterday had left the lanes in a right old mucky state with lots of standing water and run off from fields. Mucky bike and mucky human is the result.

Anyhoo. January's qualifying ride done and dusted.
101 miles for the day. Too cold to chase any Eddingtons.

No, I love riding in Wales but just haven't done any centuries there that I can recall, possibly because of all those hills.

For the maps I use this site https://www.jonathanokeeffe.com/strava/map.php
that collects data from Strava, where I tag all my qualifying rides with a short code that allows me to filter them for things like this.
The site can be a bit slow, especially when in high demand such at at year end, but gives these pleasing results.

:hello:

I wasn't sure if I'd manage a ride this month but I do have a qualifier in the bag so I'm in for another go at the challenge. 105.2 miles round the north of Shropshire on a day that was a bit more icy than I'd hoped for . The ride write up is here: https://www.cyclechat.net/threads/your-ride-today.173254/post-7343955

I back in again after 103 miles from Leicester heading to the Birmingham subburds for a few velo viewer squares , However I'm not completely committed to this year's challenge ,I being to really struggle once past 80 miles so I not overly enjoying the rides . I will however try and get to April as that will be 100th month of doing an Imperial century and then reassess then . Will update the challenge thread when at less broken

I'm out, I've been ill since Thursday before last and spent pretty much all of last weekend in bed and still not fit enough to ride for six hours plus.. Shame as today though cold was very light winds and dry so was ideal for a January ride.
Flu ? I take it seems loads about ,I must say I was expecting to see you post to Strava today as it was a good as it gets weather wise . Did come across some icy patches which surprised me because at home my car was frozen and the local roads were perfect
