It's only really worth seeing with a decent telescope - Jupiter and Saturn in the same view would be pretty cool (too wet and cloudy here).Saw it yesterday - It's just a normal bright "star" with a very dim "star" just above it.
Just saw the images on the TV and can't see what all the fuss is about !Saw it. Not really that impressed. It's not as if they are anywhere near being close other than by a quirk of optics.
I've been enjoying the memes on FB... one claims the last time this happened was when Galileo was alive, another claims it hasn't happened since the dark ages. The festive one claims the last time it happened it was called 'the star of bethlehem'.... so we've got around 500 years ago, between 1500 and 500 years ago, and around 2000 years ago... and it won't happen again for 60 years! It's only really worth seeing with a decent telescope - Jupiter and Saturn in the same view would be pretty cool (too wet and cloudy here).
As ever, the media have hyped it all up and primed people for disappointment.
Well remembered! I did nip out last night with the idea of getting the telescope out... however far too much cloud to see anything unfortunately.. To be fair I do need to use it more than I doI seem to remember @simon the viking bought a telescope not long ago. Any luck viewing the conjunction?
Not easy with this weather - I've barely been out with mine since the clocks changed, which should be peak season. I long for crisp clear nights . . .To be fair I do need to use it more than I do
