I get my bikes off the scrap heap at the shop I work at.

The green one is fixed up but the white one is “as found”...

Yeah... people throw stuff like this out. Its a big part of whats wrong with this world!

Wow - what a score! Well done for saving them and yes, I totally agree that our modern disposible / consumptive culture is utterly disgusting

All working well. CF working as reliably if not more so than Virgin and Sky mini in bedroom gives me more channels than Virgin did. So win win. Not really noticing the saving but then I don’t pay much attention to my finances in reality!

Well I’ve just had my first £17.99 broadband direct debit taken by CF. Can’t really complain having had 5 months free  Been a stable service with ample speed for work, surfing, streaming when required

I work part time at a bike shop, my retirement gig. I changed jobs about eight weeks ago, moving to a shop closer to home which will allow me to ride my bike to work more frequently.

Imagine my reaction when I found out the new shop pays me to ride my bicycle to work, not much but getting paid money to save gas seems like a pretty good deal to me. Kinda double frugal like...

I now use, or intend to use (if I can break the must buy compulsion) a bar of soap with my shaving brush, instead of Wilkinson Sword shaving soap. One of those costs me about £3 a month. It's not a case of saving money as 3 quid a month is nothing, but a bar of soap does the same thing as shaving soap.🤷‍♂️

I've tried this but never got a decent lather so I use the block shaving soap. One advantage of having a large local Turkish community is that they take shaving and grooming very seriously so there's a lot of good quality materials available.

An added plus is the "retro" Turkish packaging.

I save money on razor blades by staying fully bearded.

Aye, when I started wet shaving a while ago I used normal soap bar, but it was a bit harsh. Now I use Arko stick shaving soap (which I believe is Turkish) - just coming to the end of my first one which has lasted me maybe 18 months; however I typically only shave once a week round the edges of the beard so will use fewer supplies than many.

In other just-about-relevant news I've been getting through a reasonable amount of the packaging I've hoarded (cardboard boxes and Jiffy bags) as I countinue to clear the house out. It's very rewarding to have the stuff to hand; moreso to know I'm at least doubling something's useable life by re-using it and would have been stuck without it; potentially having to spend money on packaging

It's a personal thing I think. Some soap and razor combinations give me a nasty rash. I like to try all sorts of different shaving soaps and considering how long they last even a relatively expensive one at say twenty pounds is good value. But to be honest one of the best I've found for my skin is Proraso Red cream at three or four quid a tube so if I was being purely frugal and utilitarian I'd use that.

I've got two coming to the end and two ready to open so I can't justify buying any more just yet. Got some fancy Paolo Barrasso stuff to try next.

+1 for reusing packaging. I find that empty boxes from cat food pouches are perfect for small parcels. Also, some food containers are worth keeping to re-use. There's this Polish vegetable salad that comes in a small plastic bucket, and they're great for keeping that half an onion in the fridge or the last of a packet of lentils and stuff. Plus the big tubs of dreamies are great for keeping cupboard staples in.

Also use junk mail and light cardboard for lighting the fire.
