I saw a clip of Pete Best playing drums with a band. He seemed an alright drummer to me, not that I am any great judge. There is a hypothesis that you need to spend 10,000 hours doing something to master it, but Pete Best was out there with the Beatles in Hamburg, so why wasn't he any good. Probably didn't help having John Lennon as a band leader. I am sure I would have punched him.
