The Fallowfied Loop

I live in the hills and would like some days just to ride on a nice flat road

Googled "flat cycling in Manchester" and came across the Fallowfield Loop

Would anyone know if this is suitable for a road bike with skinny tyres

Yes, I used to commute it on 23mm Bontrager racelite hardcase tyres regularly without signifcant issue. Would take spare tube/puncture kit and would be cautious after dark as it is a hang out for youths who discard broken glass everywhere...

A friend of mine does the loop quite regularly, will ask him what it's like when I see him next, though he has a hybrid bike.
Been meaning to try it myself but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Oh, wait a minute, Im a bloody student!
I know exactly what you mean though, I do find my self getting irritated by that though, its especially bad at the end of Uni, when thousands of them are crossing the road willynilly without even thinking to stop and have a look!

Yeah I use this a lot on my fixie for traveling into Manchester (am also based in Shaw)
I use a disused railway line from Abbeyhills area which takes you all the way to Ashton.
There's a cycle lane from Ikea for a mile or so and then about a mile to the start of
the Fallowfield loop.
If you've not used the loop before It's a swine to find the start,There's a signpost on Ashton old road
and then nothing. There's a rough track going down the back of some newly built houses
(this section can be fairly muddy) after a couple of hundred metres this turns to a gravel path
before becoming tarmac for the rest of the loop.
Cant say I've encountered many students though,Unless they're all round Chorlton,
I usually bailout at Wilmslow road and take that into the city centre
Have your wits about you travelling into the centre on this section though,
There is a cycle lane but they allow parking on the left of the lane and people tend to double park
in the cycle lane forcing you out into the traffic

I ride the bit from Fallowfield to Chorlton regularly, most of it (99%) is proper nice flat tar and is great to cycle on. The bit from the new tram stop in Chorlton into Chorlton itself is on a pavement made up of those concrete blocks which are all slightly different heights and have nice gaps between some of them...
