I lost a lightweight jacket from my back pocket earlier this summer on the way to the cafe on a club run. On the way home I passed some road works and hanging from a warning sign in full view was my jacket. Strangely it was about 150yds away from a junction we came out of and on a road we hadn't used . Clearly someone had found it, unpacked it and hung it up for me to see. Some really good people out there.
Pretty pleased about that.

Maybe they'd just tried it on and it didn't fit them

My first thought was the same as Potsy, that they'd snagged somewhere on you and they then fell off somewhere further on, when you set off again.

Top marks to you and Potsy!
Took the hound for a walk up the cutting today , confident that his keen sense of smell would track down the missing item. In the event, he was distracted by the remnants of a Tesco Cooked Chicken, replete with wrapping, that someone had thoughtfully thrown into the field next to the footpath on the left at the bottom of the descent. Fortunately, some kind soul had found the missing specs and hung them on the wall right next to where I stopped: I can only assume that the glasses were snagged on the back of my jersey/cap and were dislodged when I got off the bike. Gutted that there will be no Nobel prize for me for discovering wormholes but at least I got my glasses back, even though I said I didn't want them. Sadly no mitts/ jackets/socks or other paraphernalia but if anyone has lost a cellophane chicken wrapper I can point you in the right direction.
Thanks to all for your input.
