Descending a 1 in 12 yesterday at about 35mph I felt my sunglasses, perched on my cap, move so, presuming they had fallen off, I pulled into a driveway about 100m down the road just around a bend. Sure enough they were no longer on my head so I turned around and started pedaling slowly back up the pavement

to retrieve them.
I was expecting them to have been run over but oddly, I could find no trace of them at all. I searched both sides of the road twice and checked over the hedge and even ended looking in the grids for some sign but nothing. At most it was 60 seconds between feeling them move and checking back and I am baffled by where they ended up. There are 2 plausible explanations - 1. they landed on a following vehicle which drove off with them or 2. a cyclist who was descending the same road as I made my way back up had seen them, picked them up and carried on. I don't think there was a vehicle close enough for explanation 1 and there was barely time for the cyclist to have stopped and started again by the time I saw him.
If anyone reading this was riding down Thurstaston Cutting on the A540 in a yellow jacket, about 2.30PM yesterday I'd really appreciate you letting me know if you did or didn't pick up the glasses. Post anonymously if you like - I don't want them back, I just want to know.

They clearly dropped through a worm hole in the space/time continuum and have ended up in the bottom of a wardrobe in Narnia.

Actually, probably not. Have you checked they're not still on your head or in the back pocket of your jersey?

They're in the same place as my AAA rechargeable batteries, and Endura glasses, and left Sealskinz sock, and favourite Buff. If i ever find where that is i'll let you know.

I bought a new rear light two weeks ago. I left home for work with it flashing madly, thought I heard a noise about 300 yards short of my work, got there and it had gone - though the mount was still there. I went back and looked pretty carefully -with very few people around but never found it.

I went back and bought another one and it has been fine since.

My mate lost his brand-new glasses mid way through a sportive. Apparently the last place he recalled having them was at the first checkpoint, but was resigned to having lost them and rode the next 30 miles without them.
Imagine our amazement when the glasses fairy found them and even hooked them over the top of his jersey...

I called him a c**k

I know you say you don't want them back, but if someone did pick them up the most likely place they'd take them is to the Eureka Cafe at Two Mills. Might be worth popping your head in.

To be fair, if you're coming down from the Cottage Loaf, or going up to the Cottage Loaf for that matter, that road is very tight and busy. I wouldn't want to be stopping for any reason going either way. You can get some good speed going down there - I doubt he'd have had time to stop for something he'd have spotted 100 metres back.

Definetly odd. You would think to find them there as it's all high walls either side of the cutting, so where would they go. I don't recall seeing any Buzzards wearing sunglasses. My first thought was the same as Potsy, that they'd snagged somewhere on you and they then fell off somewhere further on, when you set off again.
