Just looked it up. It's 282 miles from Jarrow to London and that's via the M1. How far was the walking distance in the 1920's?! 🤔

Good old Wikipedia gives it as 291miles
That said, Stuart Maconie re-walked it a few years ago, and wrote a book about it, stopping (as far as feasible) at the same villages/towns/cities
There are parts that can't be walked now for various reasons; built-on, upgrading of roads, etc...

It’s a damned fine read, with a sad twist in the tale, at the end
