so, everyone who has a modern car on here seems to have trouble with it?

anyone wanna buy my 1980 fiesta ghia 1.3?
it sits in the garage all winter, gets its brakes and other bits checked and sorted late spring, starts first time after all winter, runs happily for the summer, doing sheffield to brighton and back with no worries and the hibernates for the winter again.;)

there's been issues with fuel pumps (and other bits of fuel system) on recent vauxhalls, was on bbc's watchdog a week or two ago.
the ECU realises something isn't right and shuts it into limp home mode (top speed of about 24mph) not good when it happens while overtaking on the motorway was their verdict.

thanks for that I'll see if I can find anything on the web, struck me quite amusing I was struggling to overtake a couple of cyclists, they were obviously going faster than I do!

Mine seems ok so far.

Inlet manifolds can also leak if the gasket fails. It messes up the airflow and pressure and so the sensors call it a day and shuts up shop.

One of the best things you can do is join a forum for the particular car you've got.

If your car develops a fault you can be sure that the exact same fault has hit lots of other people too, all cars have weak spots. You'll be able to find out exactly what the fault is, how to fix it and be better armed to deal with the dealer/garage if it's something you can't do yourself. It'll save you hundreds!

Good idea.

Ex is lending me what was our lovely BMW. Have just driven it home forgotten how nice it was - probably a bad move borrowing it. He doesn't clean the car from one year to the next. I hate being in it that yucky so I have just been out in the dark, hoovered and washed it so I can really enjoy it over the next few days. It sits in the drive unused in the week, such a waste. If my premium bonds come up .........ah.........
