I just bought some chrome 501 forks for a vintage build I'm planning on doing. What is the best chrome cleaner?
When I was about 12 I used autosol to buff up my pug chrome BMX & it worked very well.
Solvo make a few different versions. Or at least they used to.
It's for polishing though, not cleaning. I would use it to get the chrome up to scratch, but not routinely. Get it looking nice and then cover it in a paint sealant to protect as best as possible. Normal Muc Off for regular cleaning afterwards.
Been racking my brains for what I have in the garage somewhere. Used it on some bare Alu car wheels a few years back and each of their polishes are pretty awesome:
If it's rusty - very fine wire wool. Wire wool and solvol works even better!
I used to clean up the rusty chrome wheels on my old motorbikes in this way.
Wax and Polish are two very different things. Wax will give it a protective coating, but it's more for looks tbh. A Paint Sealant, as already suggested, however will give it a longer lasting protection and look more natural too.
