The benefits of rain

Yesterday I was out cycling in the 30 degree midday heat, choking and spluttering as I rode through clouds of dust thrown up by the farmers desperately harvesting their fields before the rains came and constantly buzzed by big tractors and trailers racing backwards and forwards to the fields.

Today all was returned to peaceful cool calm cycling on almost empty roads. So what if its a little bit wet?

I've grown to enjoy cycling in the rain. It's always feels nice and fresh.

Bugger off - the regular wet weather prepared bike was out of action, and I couldn't be bothered this morning getting a wet ass from one of the road bikes. Now it's back on the road, it won't rain for a few weeks.

Yes but it ruins the bike, strips all the oil off the mechanisms....

I hate to ride a dirty bike

I don't mind a dirty bike, if my bikes dirty its because I've been using it for its intended purpose, I've been riding it.

Did my regular 22 mile circuit on the road bike early this morning, combined 'arvestors everywhere you looked, dust, flies, rodents, lumps of mud ... the works!!
Took 75 mins which is a personal best on my "Trek 1.2a"

Quiet day at work, loadsa rain which stopped at 8pm ... so hauled out the Raleigh at30 mtb with mudguards and did the 22 on that ... in 96
minutes. Got home covered in greenfly, spots of mud and a big smile on my face as i'd beaten my previous best time on this bike as well.

I nwas really disappointed yesterday when the forecasty of heavy rain was wrong. Really looking forward to a refreshing ride in the rain, all i got was another hot humid sweaty ride in.
