Could be the spd axle or indeed a worn cleat. Give the pedal a wiggle, if you can feel if wobble, it's either a loose pedal or you might need to tighten the bearings - it's dead easy - depends on pedal - I simply undo the lock ring on my XT's and slide the pedal off, grease up and refit. don't even take the axle off the crank.

How long have you had the cleats. I wear my left one out in 12 months, from all the stop start. I say wear out, they start coming un-clipped on acceleration and it's a bit odd bobbing up and down on a fixed with one leg clipped in at speed.

Remove the pedal, clean the socket and pedal thread, re-grease it and put it back on.

This cured a clicking noise on my other half's bike - similar symptoms to yours.
Only on one side, happens on pedal downstroke, intermittent.

We tried for a couple of weeks to suss it out, thought it was dirt/grit on cranks, maybe the BB, maybe the cleat.

Eventually left it into LBS. It took them FIVE test rides to work out it was the pedal. But thankfully eventually sorted!

EDIT: just saw previous post. Oh well ignore the above then! Good luck sorting it

There's nothing worse than having a clicking bike - it completely ruins any enjoyment, doesn't it?

I had a similar problem recently, then bizarrely, whilst riding, it slowly started going away. After a few more rides it continued getting better, and now it's totally gone. It's annoying that I still don't know what it was though. It *might* have been the pedals not being tight enough, as I remember it started after I'd removed a pedal to regrease the threads, although I did tighten it fairly good I think. Anyone know if any parts of the bike tighten with use (like the BB or pedals)?

I have a slightly squeaky left shoe/cleat/pedal, must sort it out one of these days.

Was so loud that I could hear it over my music :-)

Soooooo glad it's still gone, so my cleats did 10k miles approx, how long between changes should I leave it ?
