Firstly, he's ginger! :stop: And he's a grown man with a young boy's name. :headshake: Plus he plays for Yorkshire (as do most of the team - almost).

You don't like anybody - not even Essex boy - are you sure you are not related to Marmy ^_^

Just scanned the scorecard and it looks like a school's 11 year-old team's performance.

Extras were the highest score, less than 19 overs were bowled, both openers got ducks and I bet the coach banished them to the corner of the ground to eat their sandwiches in quiet disgrace.

Mind you, Smith had an excellent strike rate, and Clarke was back in the runs again - not all bad for the Aussies.

I never took an 8-for when I was at school...

Coming up to a 100 run lead and with 30 overs remaining on the first day. They should bat, if possible all day tomorrow and half of Saturday and give the Aussies something like 500 to battle for before they can set a score for England to chase. And still have two days to bowl them out.

I had to go out - got my sister to send texts to me every now and then to keep up!

Root is just heaven, isn't he.

But mostly cos he doesn't seem to have a good enough technique, a bit like Lyth.

Not wishing to be antagonistic  – RE: Bairstow

1. He is not there to have as good a technique as Lyth – he is there to score runs freely in the middle order

2. If he did have as good a technique as Lyth they would have picked him as opener instead of Lyth

3. He is a quicker learner than Lyth – Lyths dismissal today had the same symptoms as his previous six dismissals against the Aussies – yes it was a good ball – but he is miles too late getting into place to play - on the other hand - Bairstow has learned what the short fast ball looks like and has come up with a method to get out of its way

No, I mean both Bairstow's technique and Lyth's aren't good enough at the highest level.

Hence why Bairstow doesn't open as his 'poor' footwork leaves him susceptible to the seaming ball. Plus he has problems with fast short bowlig (who doesn't?).

He's played 15 Tests with an average of 26, which suggests he is struggling.

The first incarnation of Bairstow was on the basis of his perceived talent - his second is on the basis of his achievements - his first class runs this season 980@109 do not suggest a batsman that is "struggling"

Neither is the 50 - he has just completed
